I've been bombing the forum lately being a bit of a PITA... Still, I'm on a quest and have a million questions about the 2003 4.2 SC XKR
I found this today and am wondering what it is. It feels like a fuel line and comes right out of the LH side of the fuel rail. An inch away (back) from the Schrader valve and then dives into the false bulkhead that houses the brake apparatus and disappears...
I'm hoping,,, is this a fuel pressure regulator and return line that the PO put in somehow? If not, then what?
That is a pulse damper and that line is the one that comes from the fuel tank.
Hey Man... Thanks for the reply!
A damper, huh...? Ok. Looks like the problem I was hoping this would help solve (if it was what I was hoping it was) is still very much a problem. My system of pulse width modulation is not functioning, I don't know what to do about it, and I've simply hard grounded my fuel pump to run constantly, no variable speed for now...
I'm exhausted today. But I'll be back hoping for guidance to start to tackle this,,,, and a few other pretty significant issues with this car...
She started right up today, after like 2+yrs. Went thru a little self check and seeking,,, then idled down to about 650,,, smooth as silk. Strangely,,, (amongst others) I got a lean code...
Quite a bit to deal with going forward,,,, but all and all, a very good day!
She has an amazing exhaust mod,,, and probably quite a few other things I haven't discovered yet. Someone cared for her...
Was there water in the trunk? Might be you just need to replace the pump driver module.
Haha... I'm feeling lucky... OMG this thing...
There's a lot going on as you can imagine. And yeah,,, there was water in the trunk and a lot of places it didn't belong... I did replace the module, thank you. Still, same issue... No pulse grounding. Once it was up and running I disconnected the "temporary" ground and she stuttered and would have stalled.
When I opened it I was happy to see that the ECU didn't see water. Other things, not so lucky...
I do appreciate your help with the fueling! Really.

Jay, I figured you'd be so tired from all this work, you'd connect pulse dampers and pulse width modulation together somehow :-). Glad you got her started today. John
Good Morning J!
Yes, very glad here myself. I don't know which way I would have turned IF she didn't start... I've got a fair ways to go,,, but things just might not be as bad they could.
Quickly,,, and I am going to try to behave (lol) and keep as much of this in the ONE 'rescue' thread - but, when you say CONNECT dampers and PWM,,, what do you mean? I'm figuring there must be a pressure sensor on the rail, that signals the ECU,,, which then correlates that info (negative correlation I'd guess) and then, on a separate line, convert that into usable info --- sending the pulsing ground... Where does the damper fit in? I thought the damper was just a basic mechanical devise inline on fuel line that would soften the fueling changes? Is there something there that would effect PWM and grounding of the fuel pump controller?
Anyways...
Off to a good start ---- and on to my NO START at key turn. I get an occasional turnover but mostly clicks under the dash and not much more. BUT,,,, if I jumper the starter relay,,, cranks right over like butter, reliably, and she fires right up. I have a problem between that damn key,,, and the relay I cannot figure out...
Then - JGate only lights P, R, N, D... Will engage R (which is a beautiful thing) but not drive. Will act like it wants to turn in Park (and will when I don't run into the NO START described above) and N... Reverse,,,, well ****, she WANTS to go backwards, lol...
Anyways,,, it's 7am,,, time to get CRACKING!
Talk soon... Please know,,, your support - and saying you do,,, means a LOT! It can get quite lonely UNDER a car, lol
Jay, you do know this thread can be used in any court of law to make you certifiable and not in control of your senses. LOL
You are the man, I applaud your tenacity.
Jay, I was just keeping it light. Figured you could use a smile. Since both devices have the word pulse I was imagining you all disheveled, tired, and overworked. Opening the post, seeing the word pulse on both components, and thinking ah ha this is the key!
Oops didn't answer your question. Switching the fuel delivery on off on off creates destructive mechanical energy. The dampener has a rubber diagram inside to absorb and defuse this .John
Come on, guys, we all know that to just own and drive an XK proves us relatively certifiable. At least my wife thinks so.
Jay, I know you have seen this before on this forum, but have you checked the battery for full charge/amps? As anyone will tell you, these cars are more 'Electric' than most others. Some would say even 'Eclectic'.
The only pulse modulator that I know anything about is for laser generation. I am still trying to get a good laser added to my XK8 for the crazy drivers here in S.W. Fla. You might have a few in N.Y. Some of ours came from there.
