Default front ball joint / seperator

Question, I'm pulling the front apart to replace bushings etc, I'm trying to remove the lower ball joint using a Hfreight claw style bj clamp, I find the bj shank it too wide to fit the claw in, I'm considering grinding the jaw a bit wider but wanted some input first.

2nd question: the rotor shield appears to be seated within this balljoint shank, when pressing the new one in did you do this or just cut the tab on the shield ?

I used one like this. It was very difficult to break free, it took a lot of torque, a lot of heat and a big hammer.

The heat shield retaining loop sits over the shank and will stay in place.

Tap the push point with a hammer gently as you tighten.

Just hit the area where the ball joint goes thru the spindle with a big hammer, should just pop free. the ball joint is tapered just need to shock it free.

Or use a long barrel air hammer and a hammer bit (NOT A POINTY BIT).

Thank you all for the replies,
I used the grinder to 'open' the clamp mouth, it only needed 1/32" more, similar to the one shown above it now fits in.
And I misunderstood the shield, it will fit on re-assembly.
