Front brake pads.......

Front brake pads.......
Tried to change the front brake pads yesterday but could not get the two bolts ( 17mm )out which hold the caliper to the backing plate. Soaked in releasing fluid but still no joy. Will give it another go now.
Also a fail to start yesterday, I think I am going to need another battery or there is a problem with the alternator. The voltage on the gauge reads 13v so thought that would be enough?
Any thoughts on the above appreciated.
Cheers,
Arty

Arty,
You are trying to remove the Guide Pins (arrowed in blue) and not the Carrier to Vertical Link bolts (arrowed in red)?

Caliper Guide pins are a 2 x Weetabix job but the Carrier bolts take the whole box!

I take it thats not the way to go but to remove the Caliper Guide pins? Not done this before on this car or this type of brake system. Is it just a case of taking the Guide pins out and the spring of the front and it all comes free? Just had my mind set on taking off the caliper and nothing else.....
Thanks for the heads up.
Just found this link, didnt look before as I thought it was so straight forward.....

Arty,
YES - Guide Pins out and the whole Caliper comes away from the Carrier. There's some useful diagrams in the JTIS section:
JTIS - XK8 Front Brake Pads.pdf
You only have to remove the Carrier if you need to change the Discs.
