Question Front bumper

Howdy Folks!!...
I'd just like to mention that the "FAQ" section is real handy... But it didn't help me in this case. The question I have... isn't there some kind of cover under the bumper to keep rocks and whatnot from comming up and taking out the oil cooler, or whatever that finned radiator apparatus thing is behind the bumper?? If you look at it from the lower front, it looks like a couple of threaded bolt holes at the base of the radiator.
Thanks
Ol' Confused and Forgetfull Freddie...

Starting in '05 they extended the front bumper down to cover the oil cooler, but prior to that, it's just sitting there, waiting to be smashed into a parking curb.

Freddie, show us a pic of your lower bumper area. You'll see a black trim piece that attaches to each end of the bumper, just in front of the wheel. That black piece is supposed to come with a 3/4" rubber flap, to extend downward. I replaced this piece once (all one, not just the black rubber) and then it got torn off again...so I just left it off. If yours is missing, a new one of these could help.

Look at the PArts Diagram on the FAQ thread, first page, its referred to a valence panel.

x2.
I had to replace my valence panel (might also be listed as 'undertray'), as my oil cooler was getting beaten up badly.

One thing to note, the online dealer said due to size it had to ship by truck, so it actually worked out cheaper to buy at full price at my local dealer. Last year it went for $127.50.

I just looked at my valence panel, and it's behind the oil cooler, so no matter how much you lower that clearance, it won't save the cooler. Sorry, my bad.

RED arrow is the valence we were talking about.

umm, wait, we're talking about the power steering fluid cooler right? The cylindrical one that hangs real low in front of the radiator?

I looked at my (XKR) engine oil cooler and it doesn't look like it can be damaged without doing some serious front end rearrangement.

Edit ... never mind, i guess only the R has the ps cooler ... it hangs *much* lower than the oil cooler.

I purchased one from Nalley Jaguar one of the forums sponsors for $127.50 and they shipped it free it came UPS. Sounds like your online dealer is trying to rip you on shipping. Another note the guys at Nalley are great to deal with, I can't say enough good things about them.

The valence panel is kind of sacrificial protection. It normally gets hit first and provides some 'bounce' if you bottom out on a driveway, and usually protects everything else under there from further damage. Eventually the rubber strip wears away or gets pulled off, and the protection is considerably reduced.

It is not going to do much if you slam the front end directly into a curb.

RCSign, you are right, it did not seem that big that it could not ship UPS..I was a little suspicious.
