Front of engine covered in oil
Today whilst driving my drive belt jumped off, off course temp went up and lost powered steering when i stopped and opened the bonnet the front of the car was covered in oil radiator, timing chain cover in fact the whole of the front of the engine compartment i just cant see where its come from does any one have any ideas, now cooled down have started car for a second and it sounds as normal. Ideas
Also is it engine oil? Power steering fluid? Transmission fluid?
My recent experience of the same turned out to be transmission fluid. Hose to the cooler just gave out. Replaced both of the hoses, took the pan off the transmission which was cleaned and a new filter installed. Wasn't aware I had a problem until I came to a stop and smoke was rolling out from under the hood. That's a situation that rarely ends well.
your Jag did you a huge favour throwing the belt. Don't drive it with out finding the source. Check the engine oil level first. It might be a hose or clamp on the cooler that gave out. It might be a mess now but you are lucky!
