Front License Plate

Front License Plate
Texas requires them as do a lot of other states. Michelle at Momentum told me 95% of her customers refuse to install them. I'm just wondering how many owners that read this have them installed or their best line of BS when the cop eventually gets around to making an issue of it.
Does anyone have the hide-away front license bracket installed?

There's also a motorized version of this that is activated remotely. Now you see it now you don't. Too lazy to find the link but it's pretty slick.

I don't have the required front plate and have made it two years so far. I imagine the cops have better things to do, but may nail you if they stop you for something else. I havene't got the fasteners needed to attach the mount and really don't see how it mounts so I just keep the stuff in the trunk.

Lack of a front plate here in Kalifornia used to be no big deal and I ran without one on my previous car for about 13 years. The unofficial policy was that you would not get cited for having no front plate unless you were stopped for something else. Well that changed over the last couple of years coincident with the State going down the toilet due to no money. So they have started citing cars specifically for no plate and I even know a few people that have gotten tickets while their car was parked in front of their house without a plate.
When I bought my 2005 XKR from a private party a couple of years ago, he had not bothered to put on a front plate but he had the plastic mount from Jaguar that was intended to be installed square in the middle of the large upper grill with screws into the overriders. I ended up using that mount but lowering it to the separator bar between the upper and lower grills and securing it to the bar using tie straps that are hidden. While I would prefer not to have the license mounted at all, it ends up looking pretty good. Similar "kits" from the usual aftermarket sources are priced at about $200 (seems ridiculous for a hunk of plastic or metal to which a license is mounted) so I believe my solution was a decent and thriftier compromise.

I went down to the local "Pull-a-Part" and scavanged some brackets off of a couple of cars, then used parts from two different ones to fabricate this guy. Held on by two bolts way up underneath and a tie-wrap around the center post of the lower grill opening. I think it looks a lot better than up in the grill area, but I do have to stop a little shorter of those cursed parking lot curb thingys.

My car is a NY car, and I am from CO (but living in FL) and used to have front number plates, but I wanted to get rid of them because what Florida cop will know Colorado should have one. When I took off the licence plate bracket yesterday though, It's a mess- huge holes drilled in there. My friends in CO say that they have been pulled over for not having it, but they have never been ticketed or fined. Don't do it, repairing my front bumper will cost more than I want to spend- so save yourself the trouble of ever undoing it. I won't put mine back on.

I never thought abt taking it off until Matt asked me about that ....
When I picked up my car in California - it already has both plates mounted - so I drove it home to Texas with CA plates. When I arrived here and registered it, I just installed both plates w/o even thinking about 'em ....
Count me as the exception - but since I have the 03 XKR - the car has 2 weird black plastic bars that separate the mesh grill. To me - the license plate helps covering those ugly plastic black thingy ....
