My 1999 xk8 suddenly will not start. problem is a fuel delivery. A fuel pump does not run when key is turned on nor when cranking. I have dug out a fuek pump, but it is working. Wires from the connector in the right upper corner of the trunk have continuity. But when I pull out a fuel pmp relay and bridge terminals 3 and 5 the pump does not ryn. Should I have a constant 12V on the terminal 5? Where I should look for a breakege? Should I just run a new wire from the battery to the terminal 3 of the fuel pump relay? Please advice.

 

You have 2 sets of fuses for the pump one on start and another when it is running. See if this helps.

I found the problem, but it does not help much. The fuel pump was replaced about a yaer and half ago with the aftermarket substitute. This pump must be drawing much more amps because the multiwire terminal just behind the tank cover was almost welded together. I cut the power wires from it and conncted themwith the bullet terminals outside of the factory harness. But when the pump is running even the ground wires in the terminal are getting hot as well as the connecter the fuel vapor recirculation fixture on the top of the tank. I have ordered an original pump and will see whether there will be any difference.
