I had hoped that the exploded parts diagrams I was looking at would give me a hint but, alas, no such luck...

I am guessing that there is just some dirt and debris blocking the drain, but I cannot find the outlet. Looking at the parts diagram, it appears as though there is a piece that has about a 90-degree turn and a nipple to which a hose would be attached. However, I had no luck finding it in the areas that I had hoped it would be...

In the meantime, I have to wait for accumulated water and gas to evaporate or otherwise slosh out while driving.

Anyone able to point me to where the drain exits?

The hard plastic tube goes down behind the fuel tank and out behind the rear suspension.

It should be attached to the 'under body' (the front of the outside of the spare wheel well) with a plastic clip.

If you have ever attempted to access the diff fill/level plug then you know the area I'm talking about.

And it's very likely to be plugged with dirt at the outlet end.

Unfortunately you can't put a wire down from the filler bowl to clear it because there's a 90 degree bend in the drain tube assembly:



Push a wire or small drill bit into the outlet end to clear it.

thnx to both of you...it gives me a new location to be looking- have not had to deal with the differential on this one and would not have thought to look in that area. The only other vehicle that I had to contend with this issue on was the Miata, and it was relatively easy to locate (the drains for the top were a little different though LOL).

And yes, that 90-degree bend is what was putting the kibosh on the seemingly-easy solution that wasn't...

I'll take another look when the skies north of Houston quit crying...another three inches this morning between 4AM and 7AM. Nearly a foot and a half in roughly two weeks...the X-Type is getting most of my action lately.
