Hello, I've been shaking down my "new" 2000 XK8 coupe, and one of the problems I found was a broken fuel filler door latch retainer nut. The filler door would push in too far and rattle, as the top of this retainer nut had broken off. Having asked about this in another post, and finding that this piece is generally unavailable, it turns out a friend of mine is a 3D print guy, and he does custom programs to make various things. I gave him the remnants of my original one, gave him the dimensions of the broken part, and he was able to design a program to print out one of these. I installed it on my car and it was just about perfect.
That being said, is there any interest among XK8-er's for this part? If so, please respond. If there seems to be interest, I could probably have some more made up for sale. Wanted to express interest before I do anything else. The photo below is the new piece installed on my car.
This nut was broken on my 97 XK8 when I bought it. I had to buy a complete used actuator with nut to be able to obtain one. It seems to be a common problem area, and one that should demand some volume. Maybe contacting one of the Jaguar parts companies might be a good place to start, as I'm sure they will have some idea as to the number of times they have had the part requested. Should also be worldwide problem.
Ok, we're having 10 made up for now. If anyone wants one, please PM me. Cost will be $20 + $1 shipping (we have to amortize the labor cost he spent designing it, and use of his print machine). If you're not satisfied with it, you can send it back for a refund. It worked well on my car, I installed it with a crescent wrench, as I couldn't quite do it with my hand alone.
Down to 7 of these left. Will have to raise the price to $24 (which includes shipping), as shipping in the continental US turned out to be much more expense than I thought as it must ship as a parcel post. Please PM me if interested.
To anyone interested, we're also planning on making some upper strut attachment nut/bolt covers, if there is any interest. The prototype is at the front right, while an original is at the rear center. Slight differences, hard to get the design perfect using the 3D printer. I can't find these too easily. Please PM me if interested. Not sure about a price yet, but should be reasonable. I'm looking for two of the large center caps, as you can see! Previous owner just threw away any part on the car that wasn't welded on, evidently.
