Default Fuel pump part number

Thanks for the form. I hope someday I can help somebody. My fuel pump died after only 15 years and 45000 miles. I would like to find a good pump that doesn't cost too much. Does the F 150 pump interchange. It is a big job I hope I don't have to do this every 15 years lol. It's a convertible so tank removal is a must I hear.

There is a big difference in cost on the 2003 and later cars. What year is your car?

I hope you're sitting down. The 4.2L cars have the pressure regulator and fuel level combined in the pump and cost close to $600. I doubt you can build a substitute system that the electronics would accept.

Perhaps one could disassemble the later fuel pump canister and replace just the fuel pump. the Walbro and other pumps have a built in ck valve. I have successfully replaced a pump only in a GM canister. should be worth a gamble since the OEM Type price is so expensive. Fuel pumps alone that will probably work and cost $100 USD. Automotive Perf. Products in Dallas Tx area is a source. Some canisters just snap together dis assemble easily. Jaguar????????????

Default Fuel pump blues

Thanks, as soon as I can get up. I'll go check the fuse a couple more times. Then I'll go sit down again. And I thought the bad news was getting the tank out.

It' possible to cut a access hatch in the parcel shelf, making subsequent replacements easier. If you're going to experiment with just replacing the pump that might be worthwhile. However, the pressure regulator may be part of the pump. I have not actually looked at the 4.2 pump and hope I never do.

Any idea why the pump stopped working? Was it sitting too long in old gas? If so, it sometimes can be brought back to life. I had to remove the pump from it's body once (on another car). After a long soak in injector cleaner and a bit of coercion, I was able to free the pump and get rotation back under power. Once the varnish of the old gas is broken free, a regimen of fresh gas and injector cleaner (as specified by the manufacturer, this stuff wreaks havoc on seals) might be all you need. At the cost of these new pumps, unless you car is a daily driver, it would not hurt to try something near free first.

Default Good idea

It has been sitting too long. I'll give it a try when the weather cools down and before a hurricane blows

If it's been sitting too long (many, many months), be prepared for more varnish-related issues. Be ready with a new filter. Injectors might be in trouble, too, and glued shut. The fuel pressure sensor is CRITICAL on these systems, but fortunately the reading is available over OBDII so it is testable. Start lining up mason jars and cheap injector cleaner. Remember to remove ANY seal before coming in contact with the cleaner. This is likely to turn into a (small) project, but not necessarily expensive if you have the time to let all this soak in.

Best of luck, keep us posted.
