Default fuel sending unit interchange

Can I interchange the fuel sending unit from a 2001 xk8 to a 1996 xk8 or vice versa? Only reason I'm asking is because I seem to have the only 96 jag in Kuwait but there's plenty of newer models. Thanks

I see one part# for all 4.0 cars, so there should not be a problem.

The XK from VIN A00083 to A30644 uses the INTERNAL level sender.
The XK TO VIN 042775 uses the sender that is accessed from the rear of the tank. (external).

You might be able to swap complete tank assys?????

Thanks guys. This is my first jaguar I bought it off a guy that knows absolutely nothing about mechanics. While I'm here I'll as a few more questions . its shifting a little strange it feels a little late imo . but after 3rd its fine . the former owner said he disconnected the battery then went on vacation for a month then connected it back up and that's when he noticed it. I was thinking it must be a sensor are they internal? And your thoughts on the can chain tensioners my top two seem OK and the chain and sprockets look good for a car that has 13,000 hard Kuwaiti miles on it. Just wanting an veterans opinion. Thanks again . and I ordered the sending unit online should be here in a few weeks .

After reconnecting the battery the shifting is often rough for a while, but it should improve after a few drive cycles. If not, it could be low on fluid or the fluid may need changing.
If the secondary (top) tensioners are plastic, they MUST be changed, even if they look good.

The early cars, '96 - '98, had top hydraulic fluid that thickened and was replaced with a green synthetic. Hopefully, yours has been changed since it is still working after 19 years. Look for green fluid in the reservoir.

On a positive note the early cars had better hydraulic hoses with few of the failures of the later versions.

. . . and welcome to the forum!
