Default Gear box fault - no warning messages?

Hi folks
As the title idicates. I have a gear box fault. 1996 xk8 165K. I just got home from 30 minute drive. Just prior to arriving home I slowed at a round about just enough to let a car go through and then I stepped on the accelerator but she missed and then kicked in again. I thought nothing of it until I got home 3 minutes later and went to back in my garage. I put it in reverse and as I was backing up it just let go. It wouldn't go forward and wouldn't move in any gear at all. It would select all gears but no movement in any. No warning messages on the dash, just nothing. Engine was running just fine. I thought, ok, turn it off and on again, so I did, I got reverse this time but it jumped out again slightly after setting off backwards and then no gears at all.
Ok me thinks, I need to get it in the garage so I shut it off and on again and this time just gave it a bit more throttle to get it moving backwards which worked but it shuddered and jumped out of gear again so I put it into neutral and pushed it into the garage. No weird noises, no burning smells, no leaks, engine purrs like a kitten. Any ideas as I'm not getting any error messages and I changed the gearbox oil about 8 months ago with the correct fluid, Mobil Esso LT71141 ATF Automatic Transmission Fluid.

Cheers

ATF may be low. Any indication of a leak?

... no leaks but from what i have gathered from another Jag forum, the A Drums in these boxes ( zf 5hp24) are prone to break, something about a sirclip that breaks. Anybody have experience with these A Drums? I would have thought a gear box fault message would come on the instrument cluster but i have none.

I don't think the A failure will produce a code. Typically, reverse works, so it's less likely to be your problem. The typical symptom is no initial movement when starting from stop, then engages with a lurch as revs build.

Ok after a closer inspection and a hard reset with the ignition engaged so as to reset the modules, here is where I am at thus far. See video link to my You Tube channel below

Watched the video, still think fluid may be low. Have you checked it?

Next on my list, drain, measure then refill.

I always start to thread the fill plug back in when the fluid reaches 30C. Getting it lined up and started often sees a couple degrees increase.

Have discovered if i rev the engine a bit while in gear it will grab but lets go again when revs comeback down.
