Default Gear Shifter Stuck In Park

Hey I own a Jaguar xk8 2001 coupe.

For context, I just changed all my spark plugs, soldered and connected a new pig tail to the passenger side vvt connection (USA passenger side), and I've been trying to remove the upstream O2 sensor which is on that same side (USA passenger side)

The o2 sensor is stuck and I've been trying various methods to get it off. Including leaving pb blaster on it and trying every so often to move it.

I ended up cutting the wire to it off and disconnecting it from the harness. Since it was bad anyway and was going to be replaced. In the process I gave up trying to do it from where it was(removing from the top of the engine) and remove the cat with it or at least get under with a breaker bar.

So I put the intake back together somewhat, I didn't bolt it on but just put it in to cover it and put the sensors back. And started the engine. It ran erratic (I know all the coils and plugs are in correctly I took my time) but when I tried to put it in drive it woukd not disengage. And I'm not sure why.

Any tips, or thoughts would be helpful. My main question is why the shift solenoid is not engaging anymore. Last I checked I didn't touch any fuses.

I assume you mean that the gear shift would not disengage from Park? Can you hear the solenoid clicking to allow you to move out of park when the engine is not running and you press the brake pedal firmly and try to move the gear lever? What happens if you override the solenoid using the star headed access point?

If everything works OK when using the manual override, it sounds as if the solenoid, its fuse/relay has failed or the brake pedal microswitch/fuse has failed or something has not been reconnected. Do the brake lights work? From memory, I think that the gear interlock uses a second brake switch but a bit of googling will provide answers.

Richard

Update, found the issue. Somehow the fuse blew for (in the manual states in driver side fascia box) solenoids and something else fuse. Once I replaced it, it engages again. Learn something new everyday with this car!

if you want to get a breaker bar and proper socket on the O2 sensor, go through the ac drain ports under the dash. see here. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xk8-xkr-x100-17/2002-xkr-p1646-misleading-incorrectly-documented-dtcs-276088/

Thanks for the tip, but I already got it out from the top a while back. But the 02 sensor wasn't actually the problem. Something else is causing the code between the circuit something is not right. The heater is registering and correctly working. It's just the signal getting to the ECU. I've replaced it with 3 denso sensors and tested them all which all good readings. So I have to take some other day to find the problem.

There's a whole diagnostic procedure for that in JTIS to identify where the wiring fault is, I saw recently when I did my O2 sensor. Let me know if you need an assist looking it up.

@JagV8 Workshop manual, second edition (for 99-2002 cars) located in the second post in this thread: "WORKSHOP MANUALS - PDF Format"
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ts-data-29800/
specifically
https://www.mediafire.com/file/ldfaeda4io2o16j
You'll find diagnostic procedures for the wiring faults in there under the relevant fault codes. Be wary of the O2 sensor DTCs, depending on your cars year, because there are definitely mismatches between documented DTCs and the actual DTCs my car has thrown in the past, per my post here which you kindly helped with at the time too.
