Gearbox fault
Is there a way to add transmission fluid to a 2000 XK8 transmission...I remember reading somewhere that it is possible to disconnnect a line and add a quart or two through the line just to make sure that's not the problem before I start looking for more fatal issues.
110K miles......driving around a corner at 20 MPH.....car jerks....and I get a dash board reading "gearbox failure".....reverse seems to work fine.
If I put it in "D" and raise the RPM's slowly the car will begin to move forward slowly.....
I don't have a lot of talent or tools....keep it simple
Thanks in advance
Steve

There are two ways to add fluid. The best is to use the fill port on the transmission and follow the recommended procedure to ensure the correct level.
You can also disconnect the line at the top left of the radiator and slowly pump through a small tube pushed down the return line. The outlet at the radiator needs to be plugged to do this. The problem with this method is that you will not know if you have the correct amount of fluid.

Thanks for your reply
My thought is that if I add a quart or two and the transmission fault goes away, or at least improves, then I will then go ahead and drop the pan, change the fluid and get the correct level of fluid.....If it does not improve then I will know I have a much more serious and costly issue to deal with.
Adding fluid I can do. above that I am going to find a good mechanic....
Does anyone know a good private shop in Northern Virginia.......I do not have much faith in Rosenthaul Jaguar dealership
