Hand brake shoes
not aware of that,my hand brake locked up,,obvious drag with the handle going limp,,shop had to go into the shoes as the lever would not release the brake,,,lights on the display,,etc,,they went into the area under the seat where the cable is routed and found a kink or loose item,,said the cable wasnt broken,,everything seemed fine until the first time i raised the handle then tried to release the brake,,now its again seized brake,,display lights etc,,back to the shop slowly

The professional mechanic who MOT tested my XK8 last year put on the handbrake to test it but then couldn't release it so backed off the adjuster on the Y bridge after the silencer. Very easy to do with a 10mm spanner if you want to drive the car with the handbrake on.
There was nothing wrong with the handbrake. He just didn't understand the button-in/firm-pull technique. I greased the release mechanism under the handle to make it a bit easier next time.

Are you sure that your release technique is correct?

Just for the record, It's not a true fly-off handbrake as were fitted to older sports cars for many years. They were applied by pulling the brake lever On and then pressing the button to lock it on. Release was achieved by just pulling the lever back and letting go when it would Fly Off unassisted.
