Default Headlights

I need a headlight assembly for my 2000 XKR. I am looking at new and used. Partsgeek has new ones, but the description talks about the polycarbonate used by Jaguar. Mine is glass. I know this because mine is broken. They new ones are made by a company called Genuine. (Seriously). The reviews are good. Anyone used these? I am wondering if they are actually glass and someone just screwed up the description.

I am a little hesitant to buy a used one due to the condensation issues I have read about. Prices for new and used are about the same. Mine are (were) very clear and dry after 22 years.

Bill

The water ingress is caused by the plastic shoots at the outer of the headlights being removed and not replaced and the caps on the rear not being replaced ..other wise OK

Default Glass - don’t go for plastic

I replaced my front left headlight on a 99 X100 with a new glass unit from DCRAUTOPARTS.COM. Not sure if he still stocks it. Dave may be expensive and may be slow to respond but I find he’s reliable.

My thread with pics is below.

Learned a lot about the assembly. There’s a great YouTube channel called “To The Garage” that goes into detail on the headlights.

PS I still have the previous glass for the front left somewhere in a box in my garage. It can be swapped out using cutters and specialist glue.

Thanks for the replies. I am looking to get the whole assembly as a unit. The used ones on ebay are over $350, and if I do that I would want to reseal the perimeter of the glass. Pistnbroke, not sure what you mean by "shoots", but I guess I am going to find out.
David, I read your thread and it was helpful. My glass is completely shattered and the silver inside finish is black like yours was. Replacing the entire assembly looks pretty straight forward.

Well shoot... If you're going to do some resealing anyways, just buy the glass (USED AUTORESERVE - UK) and fix your old assembly... It's easy. Black high strength silicone or adhesive. Wham bam... If you dig for a while you can find the glass for much under 350$.

Watch the 3 part series before you do anything.

I was watching the 3-part series last night as I was falling asleep. I have seen many of his videos.

Dumb question: how do I know if I have washers? I haven't tried my windshield (windscreen) washers, so I don't even know if they work.

Thanks again.

Look at the photo above in the TTG ..that little chrome hump at the bottom of the headlights is the washer. If you have it it is powered out by a motor when you wash the windscreen. Others are false .
The plastic shoot is to the immediate outer edge of the headlight. Where the edge of the wing is bolted to the body. the water runs down that channel and into the plastic shoot which moves it past the headlight. If the shoot is not present the lights leak. Just pulls out ,
