Default Headrests

Good Evening Forum,

Looking for ideas on how to repair non operating head restraints without tearing apart seat covers, if possible. Motors run but restraints do not move. Would greatly appreciate any ideas.

Thanks

Unless you are a gynaecologist, I think some seat dismantling is unavoidable.

Check threads 7 and 8 in this link for videos:

Not really that hard once your first find and then figure out how to undo the plastic interlocking gizmo that joins the fabric from the front of the seat to the rear.

Thanks for your response. After watching the videos of the repair being performed from the back seat, I'm thinking since I am 6'5" and may get stuck in the back seat, I could just leave the headrests where they are or leave it to a repair shop.

Thanks for your response. Maybe give it a go before going to the repair shop

I fixed one while sitting in the back seat, at it was in a coupe even.

Put the top down, park under a shady tree and enjoy an hour in the fresh air. After the first one, you will be able to do the second in 30 min easy.

Take the seats out for the job. I am 6-foot-7 and had absolutely no chance of doing this repair with the seat left in place. At 6-foot-5, you'll face the same challenge. Remove the seats and it really is a relatively simple fix. And very inexpensive as well....

Actually the slickest fix for this condition was offered by someone else who who didn't go the route of fiddling with the sheathing but, rather, had a suitable cable made by a shop that sold speedometer cables. If you search the treads you should be able to find it---IT IS POST #25 at the Headrest New Fix FAQ.

Yeah instead of shortening the outer cable 12mm just get a 12mm longer speedo cable
