Hello from new forum member
Hello all,
I have been following this forum for some time and want to thank the many posters, current as well as from years gone by, for the wealth of information and knowledge which resides on this board.
I have a 2006 XKR convertible. Black with tan interior. Picked it up two years ago with 40k miles for 17k. Since then I have:
Replaced right front wheel bearing. (Hornburg santa Monica 4/2018).
Oil change and brake line flush and fill (hornburg Santa Monica 4/2018).
Bluetooth phone, streaming audio, touchscreen, Alpine Halo 9 (al & ed's autosound, Wilshire, 4-9-2018). (Intereating set up. I moved the radio din to the top and moved the AC controls down; will upload pictures).
Left front Headlight replacement. 5/19/2018.
Upper and lower engine Mount (replaced at superformance;
Front control arms replaced (superformance 4/2018)
Replaced right lower Trunk light.
Redid Side windows tinting (al & ed's autosound, Wilshire, 4-9-2018)
Repair antenna (plastic inside strap teeth are broken). completed at Superformance. 8/18.
Battery tray bolt, one missing. Ordered online and replaced.
Replaced dash lights in the instrument pannel which had gone out.
Replace left brake light.
Replace windshield washer pump.
Replace washer fluid reservoir.
Replace left front wheel speed sensor.
Replace front and rear brakes and rotors. Reattach driver seat module.
Replace entire front end suspension.
Replaced existing 20" wheels with18" Coventry Whitley. These fit fine over the brembo calipers. The ride is way better and the wheels don't hit the wheel well on dips anymore.
I figure I'm in for about 30k all in. Car is a blast to drive and all in all I'm enjoying it. The quality leaves a lot to be desired in my opinion but I knew that going in! My 16 year old is forever begging to "borrow" it. From time to time I let him!

Welcome to the Forum, Waz. As you likely know, this is the best place to get good info or "Living with an XK". It has it's problems, but most can be corrected, and it is definitely, 'One hellova Ride",

I see you've already experienced the phrase: Jaguar - Turning owners into mechanics since 1922
Be careful with that 16 year old driving your pride and joy, particularly if he is driving alone.
After teaching 5 kids to drive in my XJ6 sedan, my takeaway is that each new driver has 1 (hopefully minor) accident in them and their insurance rates are set accordingly.
While my XJ6 came off relatively unscathed, with just some scuffed rims from new-learner curb scrapes, all our other cars suffered various levels of minor damage as our young drivers figured out where the vehicle corners and their driving limits were located.
Things are even worse now with all the drivers distracted by cell phones and social media.
Waz,
My wife's 2006 XK8 Victory Edition convertible was originally sold by Hornburg Jaguar in Los Angeles on June 30, 2005 to an owner living in Beverly Hills. Less than 2 years later it moved all the way across the US to Hilton Head, South Carolina. It has resided in our stable here in Raleigh, North Carolina for nearly 9 years. We are the third owners. Even though it is no longer my wife's daily driver, she still views it as the most gorgeous vehicle she has ever owned and remains very reluctant to sell it....

That's long way overdue another oil and filter change.
Good to hear you're finding useful information here and enjoying the XKR.
