Help. Electrical issues
Computer issues. Car won’t pass echeck (Summit County Ohio). Echeck says, “ three monitors not ready, comp, oxy, evap. Took it to a foreign car repair shop. They were able to get it past check two years before.
They replaced purge valve. And, they said it had a power drain which was killing the battery nightly (was not doing that for me before I took it in).
but, I did let the battery go dead over the winter. Jumped it this spring. Check engine came on.
the shop found that the windshield heater was not shutting off which was draining the battery. They simply pulled the fuse. And, they replaced the battery. Charged me $800 and sent me on my way. Drove it 15 miles and ran it through check. It failed again as above. Can’t drive it without a license plate which can’t be had without check success.
they said the car needed to be driven “for awhile” so the computer could reset then it should pass. This was the case before and regardless of the times/miles driven it failed the test.
any ideas? Or who to take it to in NE Ohio?

BongoBilly,
Welcome to the Forum, and sorry to hear about your problems getting your Jag through your USA eCheck. I'm a Brit, based in Bahrain, so haven't SMOG tested my car but I have spent some time in the USA west coast.
I've heard people fail the USA Smog Tests because of Check Engine Lights and insufficient driving meant that the car's computer "Monitor Tests" have not completed. It's not just distance driving but also driving style. Not sure on our Jag, as I don't have SMOG tests here, but you'll need a mixture of different driving styles. Freeway driving without braking first plus stop and go in urban traffic. Basically copy routine car driving environments, so the car can check all the sensors and complete the tests.
Your problem maybe that your battery drains and dies, so the test monitors probably clears and you have to start the drive again. If you've a X100 owner, you really should have a cheap OBDII reader where you can check these parameters yourself so you don't waste time and money. As our cars are so picky on having good voltage, a battery maintainer/tender is used by many Forum members to stop many electrical warnings which come from simply low voltage.
Worst thing with some dishonest garages, is that they change parts, without checking if there's actually a real fault. Your garage replaced the evap. purge valve...… hope it wasn't just because of an incomplete monitor test from lack of driving.
