Default help identifying an XKR/XK8

Hello, I'm not that familiar with the XKR/Xk8 line. From this photo, can you tell me which it is? I understand it's a 2001. Thanks in advance.

A little hard to say, but the side emblem looks like it might be green (XK8) and the exhaust tips look to be the smaller version, which also suggests an XK8.

I'd say xkr the fender badge and center caps look red on my screen. Also I've never seen a xk8 with those wheels.

The wing seems like an xkr.
In 2001 there was only the single tip exhaust.

Mine is an '01 XK8 and I do not have the spoiler lip on the rear. Of course, it could have been added. But I do not see an R badge. Does the 2001 MY have the R badge on the front fender (wing)?

Really kind of hard to tell from this picture. Do you have any others?

I would suggest using the vin # to identify.

It looks like a XKR, the wheels are the standard XKR's There were no R badges on the fender on a 2001 The XK8 never had a spoiler on the rear. The sure way to tell is lift the hood.

I would say RCSign is right, looks like the fender badge is red, those are XKR Doublefive wheels, rear spoiler is correct for an XKR, a peek under the bonnet will tell all.

Or try to look at the hood (US definition of hood NOT UK). If you see louvers it is likely to be an XKR but there is the odd case where an XK8 owner swapped hoods.

Keep in mind you can put a badge and wheels on anything.

Thanks for all the responses. That's the only photo I have and the car isn't local to me. My interest is not for a possible purchase but for a legal matter for a friend. Damn good looking Jaguar though, and I love those wheels.

What is this legal matter?
If you don't mind me asking, just curious.

I'd say it's an XK8. Notice how it has a chrome boot plinth. XKRs had them body coloured and the XK8s had them chromed. Of course, the owner could've swapped them.

The badges look green to me, so I lean to think it's an XK8, but that could've also been swapped. A picture of the bonnet would be more certain; if it has louvres it's an R and if not it's an 8, but even that may have been swapped. The most definitive way to tell, other than by searching the VIN would be to take a look under the bonnet.

I say it's an XK8. Too bad you can't get a better shot...

As I take it that you can't go up to the owner and ask to look under the hood regarding that "legal issue", I think that ccfulton may have hit on the best way for you to tell. The hood, the emblems, the spoiler and much of the rest is very easily put onto an XK8, but, if indeed it has the exhaust tips, meaning the exhaust system of an XK8 and not an XKR, I think that you could be pretty certain that it is an 8, not an R. You should go find an R somewhere and take a very good look at the tips and then see it this car has the same type or if they are, in fact smaller. Other than looking under the hood, I think that that is your best alternative.

Does the XKR have "XKR" on the steering wheel, like the XJR does? If so, a quick peek through the window will tell all.
