There is a VERY thin hex nut attached to the top of the rubber, under the plastic air-box flange. Grab it with a open -end wrench or a pair of vise-grips.

XKR8,

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to XK8/XKR forum. This is the place to post tech questions about your model.

Attached photos , what do you think?
will water from the vents on the hood and / or engine heat can harm this filter?

I think it looks nice and probably sounds a little throaty BUT, you are now going to be drawing in warm/hot air into that engine not the cool air it needs to run at it's best. While the standard Jag airbox may not look cool it actually provides cool air. I've measured the intake air temp with my Ultraguage and on the open road not stuck in traffic even on a warm day the intake temp is only a little above ambient. Received wisdom is that the cone filter like as not wont give you any increased horses either. There are cone filters that also have an attachment for a cold air intake duct.

No recommendations from me I'm afraid as I stick to the OEM box. I had a dalliance with a piper cross on my Eunos but went back to the OEM box there as well. Other forum members may have suggestions but probably best trawling ebay

There are quite a few threads addressing this very issue. The link above has a dozen or so photos of similar installs, notice several of them where they isolated the corner to create a cold air box. From my research on the forum it seems our cars can benefit from more breathing room....bored TB, 3.5" intake, larger MAF, etc. Interesting.

Is that the one that you have to treat with the proprietary snake oil?
