Default Hi guys, I'm torn what to buy under $15K

If you had $15K would you spend it on a 07' XK or the 06' XKR..? Or what $10k on a 05' XK8 and save the extra $$$ for maintenance, wheels, audio upgrade and power train warranty? If all are equal with decent miles, great condition and must be a coupe.

I've been playing with my nicely appointed 1995 300ZX for the past year and love it BUT I'm still wanting a XK8/R and it's pulling on me a little.

I'm a fan of older, cheaper, cooler cars. So I'd probably go for the '05 and bank the money. But I also do much of the work on the car myself, and although she's my daily drive, I have a back-up for when she needs some TLC. $15K for an '07 sounds pretty good though, even if it isn't as pretty as the '05.

Yeah that's what I leaning towards... I love older cars and especially beautiful classic GT/sport cars like the XK8, SC400, 300ZX, 911...

Here's my 1995 300ZX 2+2... He he he

It sounds as if you're guesstimating the cost of an '05. I've seen ones with salvage titles having an asking price above that.

The 07 is likely a better car, suspension, handling, etc but I'd buy the 06 XKR, plenty of power and it just looks way better.

If you like the older cars, the 2003-2006 models are the way to go. They also better looking IMHO. Get the best one you can for your money. There will still be things to fix, but the less the better.

Said many times, but bears repeating. Get one with a proven history (records, receipts) of proper care. All the years you mention are around 10 years old. Make it a good one. Don't trust low miles to mean good maintenance. At this age, it matters less, and these cars prefer to be driven.

There was a BRG '03 XKR Coupe in Memphis that just sold in the JF Classifieds for $12.5K last month.

That would have been the car to buy. Right year, right color, right motor and a coupe (and the price was right).

Asking and actual is two different things... Lol I'm not paying over $10k for an '05 XK8 no way unless it's sooooooooo special. R yes.. There's been a few in that range when I wasn't looking and I'm patient.

That's a decent price! Probably sold it for $11k.

You're in Memphis? I'm there a lot on business. I've had my Z serviced at Performance car and tire on Summer and they're super on sports cars!

I'm in Dallas/Ft Worth, but I seriously thought of driving to Memphis to buy that XKR Coupe.

I was there a few weeks ago... A great friend lives in Lavon outside of Dallas. I'll be back in a few weeks with my daughters for the museums

If you're considering 300zx's and sc400's too, you probably haven't driven an xkr. Don't get me wrong, I love those options myself(especially the 300zx). But those other cars are $1,500-$2,500 cars, most are beaters driven by high school kids..

His '05 price is unrealistic as well. Must be a fan of salvage and 100,000+ mile cars.

I've owned all of those cars before 300ZX (is the most decorated and herald sports car/coupe of the 90s), SC4 (the best reliability of all the cars) and a couple of Jaguars including a sweet XJ and STypeR.

Not sure where you're getting your facts but clean not baztardized ized 90-96 ZX NA and TT are going for $9k-19k. Just google or check out eBay, trader etc.
I actually have the red ZX (see above post) I'm an enthusiast and appreciate all cars BUT I'm jonesing for a XKR another car from the 90s that I need!

As with the prices I've run across quite a few 05' XK8 around $10k and 07' XK card for $15-17 all day that aren't salvage cars(cash/check in hand always trumps the selling price for a motivated dealer/seller) but I wasn't looking for one then (too many projects current toys 95' 300ZX, 75' 280Z, 03' 350Z, 68' Caddilac Deville, 68 Chevy Truck & 02' Benz CLK 320). Selling a couple to save monies for my latest knuckle headed adventure! LOL

Any leads on a great coupe let me know and I'll deal. I'm opened for a little more $$$ for the perfect example and mileage that will fall in the extended warranty range(I need one car with a warranty!).
