I think you use a 7mm socket to turn the white nylon adjuster nut.

Headlight assembly...
Appreciate the info.
I recently hit a deer, which caused a lot of front end damage. The drivers side headlight assembly was replaced, along with both my fog lights.
The drivers side headlight looks "weird" now. It shines much shorter than it did before, and the pattern that appears in front of the car on the ground resembles the steps of a set of stairs - like if you were looking at a set of stairs from the side. The passenger side wasn't replaced and is great.
The fog lights don't cover half as much area with light as they did before they were replaced. The original ones lit up a great deal of area to either side. Now they just light up mainly the front area of the car. Very disappointed in how they look now. I have checked the parts and they replaced everything with jaguar parts, and they were supposedly aimed according to Jag specs.
I was not aware that an 02 model had self leveling headlights.

Getting to knob that adjusts the beam up and down is easily accessible, however, the knob to adjust left and right is pretty much impossible. That knob is recessed so deep in a very poor location for the lay owner to reach. I fiddled with it for literally hours to try to grasp it but just cannot get to it with a socket. There's no way to see the knob and reach for it at the same time. I used a dentist mirror to find it, the groped my fingers in to get a feel of where it is, then I had to guess where to place the socket to get to the knob. And there's very little room to get a socket extension to reach the knob. Could never get it make correct contact. Eventually gave up. Not a good design for owners to make the horizontal beam adjustment.

Going to try a third time to get my drooping passenger side low beam to come up to proper angle.
Got it about halfway from "seriously useless" to "meh", but the adjustment was getting tight: it's made of nylon and the last thing I want to do is strip it. There's also almost no room to get the 5mm socket in there with a ratchet attached, and the arch over the top covers the head of the adjustment screw.
It seems like it will bottom out in a few more turns. Is this normal?

I don't have auto level on my XK8 but I adjust the same manual way. My 8 has a bubble level built into the housing so you can see what the normal beam height should be and you can raise or lower the beam and make them both even in height.
