How do you get the hood to straighten up so I can remove the front end?

How do you get the hood to straighten up so I can remove the front end?
Looks like I'm going to have to remove the front end to install a mesh grill. I saw a video on youtube of a person doing the work and the hood was upright allowing him access with a drill to the front screws. The video did not mention or show how he got the hood that way. Does anybody know how this is done?
