Default How to pull and repair the door panel 03 XKR

Thanks for the help in my previous post. I decided to upload some pictures and advice for the archives.

#1. View of the entire door panel

#2. Screw located behind cover inside door handle well.

Remove rubber insert from door pull area to expose the next two screws.

#3. Screw located by window controls.

#4. Screw located at opposite end of door pull area.

Carefully pry the window control module out of its recess.

#5. Screw located under where the window control module was.

#6. Overall view of door with panel removed.

Inspect all clip housings.

Before removing residual glue from the panel, draw an outline of the piece to be reattached. It must go back in the exact position or the clips won'tmatch upwith the door.

Examples in pictures 7 and 8.

#9. This one was my downfall. It's the uppermost corner and the housing for the clip had broken on one side. We JB Welded the button back into place then affixed it to the holder with a ziptie.

If any of the pieces were even the slightest bit loose, we removed and reattached them (I think we did 5 total). Product of choice was JB Weld. I let the panel sit overnight so it cured properly.

Good as new!

Default Thanks for the DiY pics.

Good Job. Seeing the behind the panel will help many people not break off the clips when removing the panel. gordo

sorry rc, those pics must have been lost during the conversion of the forum software last year...it happened to many threads.

Check the FAQ in the xk8/xkr section, see if there isn't a thread or video that shows how to remove the side panels...in fact, I think i did some pictures of that once. seems oddly familiar.

If you damage any of the push pins, Lowes sells them at a better price than the parts house.

martin, are you referring to those door panel fasteners? If so, what's the part number? I've resorted to the dealer for handfulls at a time, and need more this weekend for another door that's been off one time too many.

Thanks Reverend! The video was very helpful. I have already gotten some use out of your other vids. Very informative stuff.
