It started off great and I loved the look, feel and power but it has ended horribly for my 2011 Jag XF, 5.0l V8. Some small problems that I could overlook and then design issues such as broken wires in the trunk harness. A bad waterpump at 65k miles, 600 miles from home. I had bearing from the pump distributed throughout the engine. Most recently and 5 months out of warranty, the dreaded restricted performance that led to bad fuel injectors. To make matters worse, Jag tried to mark up the injectors 442% and parts + labor by over 535%. I mean I know they work at a premium and have more experience than other mechanics but that's just gouging the customer. I'll never own another Jag, ever. You just can't rely on them once they get over 50k miles. A crying shame because I have never treated a vehicle with more reverence and pride (weekly washes and waxes, premium fuel and oil, the best leather treatment, ...). In the end it just wasn't worth my time and investment. I couldn't be more disappointed in every facet ... except the sound systems that they put in the early jag xf's, wilkins and bowers also found in Ferrari's and Lambo's, are fantastic in their channel separation and fidelity. Unfortunately that alone doesn't make up for the negatives and lack of reliability.

First, my XKR is a "good weather" car and not my daily driver. I also have a '67 MGB GT (over 200k miles) and a 1974 MGB roadster with over 360K miles. I have a very complete, heated and air conditioned garage with a lift, am a pretty good mechanic and electronics troubleshooter (ex-USAF aircraft mechanic, A&P certified and avionics tech) and enjoy "wrenching" almost as much as driving. I think that is key to owning one of these, you cannot be afraid to get your hands dirty. Not that I have had much to do yet, as the previous owner left the car very well sorted. These are simply gorgeous cars and turn a lot of (ladies) heads and XKR's are considered fairly "exotic" by most people. The "Ford" model years are more reliable than previous years, and parts are cheaper than Aston Martin or Ferrari bits. Perfect car for me, and I also got the "green light" from the wife to look for another, maybe this time a four door that needs more work than the XKR. I think my wife likes knowing "what I'm up to" when out in the garage.

I can tell you with certainty that my ownership of a 2006 XKR with 42k miles has been a walk in the park compared to 3 years chasing gremlins in a 2004 SL500 I purchased with only 11k miles, and I still had warranty on that one!

Cabel you said it well. I remember getting used to my XJ6 years ago. It hit me - you "wear" these cars, you just fit so well into the driving experience.

Reminds me of my ex-wife. Easy to look at. Draws a lot of attention but very difficult to live with. My 1969 E-type had issues but at least you could figure them out without a megabuck computer analyzer. As a former British Leyland mechanic, I am finding that not much has improved in the reliability department. Maybe if they were faster, the aggravations would seem more tolerable. 300HP is not much these days. My 1988 Porsche 928S4 is a lot more reliable. And performs better. Funny how Ford owned Jaguar back then but my same year T-Bird with basically the same engine is a lot more dependable.

I've had mine for over eight years, do about 3k miles a year and now have 55k miles all told. The only problems have been one door lock partial failure and, just now, the w'screen washer pump. I've drive it all over in France and have a tour of Spain booked for this year, all undertaken confidently and successfully.

Along with my wife's X Type that she's had for twelve years from new and has been just as reliable for its 85k, our experience with Jaguar's has been just wonderful and way ahead of the MBs and BMWs of some of our friends. Even our next door neighbor's big Chevrolet has proved disappointing in comparison!

There really are plenty of good Jaguars out there, but of course, the nature of forums means not many of them feel the need to sign up to tell us!

Describe it? "Active lifestyle", cuz I've done more walking with this car than my M3 ever let me do, while "discovering" things. Too bad I cant drive both at once.
What do you cal a Jag owner?...A pedestrian!

Even tho my Jag really does rock!

German parts - British Soul

My first car was a 15 year-old Jaguar Mk 10, she taught me much about automechanics and superb engineering, set me up for a 31 year relationship with a Triumph TR6 -- Triumphs were built cheap to sell, not Jaguar quality...

I have a 140,000 mile X-Type Wagon, 10 years owned, it's been great and very reliable. Minor quirks now not supported by dealer, but it's OK, she is still a wonderful ride and I'll drag race anyone in snow.

My mistress is my 2015 F-Type. Content is 51% german parts, but total British soul. Puts smiles on my face just looking at it, then I drive it....wow!

Grace, space and pace. They are unique, our Jaguars. They have personality, design, engineering and soul.
