Default I need help with a creak

I took off the upper arm yesterday and fully greased it in an attempt to get rid of a creak, it didn't work. Can anyone suggest were else it could be coming from.

Have a look at the video please and let me know your thoughts. Could it be from the shock/spring assembly?

Garage carnage this evening.

You're right, the upper control arm / wishbone bushings seem to be the source. A bit of grease may help, especially if the bushes are newly installed.

Another cause of the squeak might be a general complaint from the Jag over having to share the garage with the Merc? ;-)

Do you know a source for polyurethane control arm bushes?

I had a thought, I will connect the damper back up to the lower arm and then support the car beneath the lower arm, then try the wing bounce test again.

Then connect up the anti roll bar and test again and then the hub, test again etc etc till I find the culprit.

If it does turn out to be the upper arm bushes then I will replace with Powerflex poly like the ones I used for the lower arm.

RD, I'm going with the sway bar bushing, not the end links, but the big sucker that has a good video somewhere on how to do it.

Well I have found that whenever I support the car from beneath the lower wishbone I can't get the car to creak, regardless of what parts were connected up or not. I have also eliminated to top wishbone bushes as the source.

The car creaks in the same way regardless of whether or not I have the fulcrum bolt tight.

It is also not the anti roll bar as this is also well greased up and moves silently.

I am now thinking it could be the shock bush assembly, the shock top foam pad is well compressed but surprisingly the ride height is still close to the maximum limit.

Any more suggestion on how to track this down?

Poly LCA bush?

Poly bushes have a reputation for squeaking/creaking.

Marine grease is reported to be one of the better lubes for poly bushes.

It may help during install to lube and install one half, push more lube into the other side
of the bore, then lube and install second half of the bush. This is to use any vertical
space between the two halves as a grease reservoir.

I pulled the n/s spring and damper out tonight, I'm not sure if this is the cause of the creak but it does not look to good. Anyway I'll swap them over tomorrow but will need to get the mounts replaced soon. The odd thing is that my current ride height is high???

Has anyone used the aftermarket pads like this Jaguar Partno_MJA2170BD*_FRUP SPRING MOUNT XK8 EEEEE ALL VIN_David Manners Group with Alts they seem to be half the price of the originals.

RD, no way would I put that back on the car, unless it's your only means of transportation. I did the standard replacement recently, condensed foam really and it was fine. Do get all the paint off the bolts before installing.
Ugly Ugly.

How was the bottom shock bushing, they are very weak and you can get them for about 15 pounds in England.

I believe the upper shock mount bush is available in poly.

That is actually a good application for poly since there is no rotation involved.

Endlinks are another good application, again because there is no rotation involved.

I had an undercar creak on my 2001 XK8 convertible that would not go away. Sounded and felt like it was coming from the right front wheel area.

WHEN I WOULD HEAR IT:
I would get this creak any time I loaded the right front wheel suddenly, such as turning right to enter a driveway. It would creak as soon as the RH front tire hit the ramp.

WHAT WE TRIED:
Put new Bilsteins on the front end.
Replaced those upper bearing plates in the photos RaceDiagnostics posted.
Checked and lubed every suspension part we could find.

Still creaked.

Finally asked my mechanic to try loosening and retightening the body braces. These are not even suspension parts. They are chassis parts.

This solved all creaking issues instantly and permanently.

PS: I don't feel too bad about changing the parts we changed since they looked original anyhow and the car was ~15 years old by then. Front feels perfect now except for a minor looseness in my steering column (not the steering feel, but the steering column itself seems like it could be tightened).

My breaking was lower ball joints. Happened every time I got in or out of the car.
