Default Ignorance is bliss.

Looked at a fair few Jags lately. But apart from sheer speed what actually is the difference between the XKR and the XK8? Is there any other advantage to having the R bit as opposed to the 8 ending. Obviously the speed and brakes to handle that speed but is there anything else that would warrent the extra few grand for the R badge?

(and yes I know the cheek to cheek grin factor)

Perhaps check the cheek to cheek pucker factor? (Oh, different cheeks )

I have the 8, so in my view you've summed up the differences quite adequately. Except rather than speed, the difference may be more accurately as the rush, or acceleration, provided by the R.

I don't ever want to feel that, as I want to remain satisfied with what I have...

The sound of the supercharger chucking all that extra air into the system as your being pinned to the seat back is something to behold I'd have the R every time!

2003 and later XK8's and XKRs have similar transmissions, but 2002 and earlier R's have a more reliable Mercedes 5 speed.

CATs dynamic suspension is also standard on the R's.

There is less crappy plastic in the cooling system, though on the other hand it is more complex.

R's have hood vents if you like the look.

The only other advantage is solely for the insurance company's....they ask for more money so you can drive it on the road !!!

Thats more or less what I thought. No extra toys except for the brakes and vent holes. I also suspected the suspension may be different but obviously not. (Just re-read some of the answers and yes the suspension IS different on some modles)

Thanks for all the replies guys

Also the mesh grille (3 piece on the early cars, one piece on the later) I fitted one to my XK8 since I think it looks much better than the "braces" look of the standard grille.

In Australia, difference is about $10K - $15K between an 8 & R.

You forgot to include the supercharger in your list of toys...

Best wishes, Colin

The R has a body kit that sets it apart, better brakes, active suspension and 100 more horsepower that comes with blower whine that every car guy needs to hear before he dies. This also come with the knowledge that you can drop just about anybody you want to out there. It attracts attention and comments often and puts you in a more special category of driver. The handling is way up there and it looks good as you walk away from it...enough said. Finally, it has heritage unlike the little Jappo cars and style way beyond the German ones.
