Lightbulb installing auto fold mirrors

Hello people has anyone ever installed auto fold mirrors on an XK8 that was bought with standard non fold units, can it be done and can you retro fit modules that are generally fitted as optional extras for that matter such as memory seats and electronic steering tilt and rake adjust. Thanks

Yes, you can just swap in the autofold mirrors. Your car might requre reprogramming with a dealer computer (WDS/SDS) to activate them though.

This is likely the case for the other functions also.

I did a bit of research on this issue and quickly came to the conclusion that the price to replace the fixed mirrors to powerfolds was prohibitively expensive (at least for me).

How much, ballpark, is "prohibitively expensive"?

I would need find my old posts where I originally asked about this but if the price were a few $hundred I wouldn't have balked so it must have been much more. If this conversion was in the $1K neighborhood I would have concluded this is something I could live without. I realize it might look pretty snazzy to have the mirrors fold but I NEVER park close enough to anyone or anything where this would be of any practical benefit for me.

Great, thanks. I think if I could get this done for $1k or less, I'll do it and if I can get the mirrors for $300, that would really help.

I guess it comes down to what else needs to be added/wired so that the mirrors would work in a car that came without these.

Does anyone know what year power fold mirrors were first offered as an option? I just checked with Coventry West and was told that they came out in 2003 and will not fit older models.

Good day,

Well, I'm not positive as my car doesn't have power fold mirrors, unfortunately, BUT I do have the 99 XK8 wiring pdf and it has on figure 11.3-11.4 a power fold switch that goes to the drivers door control module... The output of the drivers door control module goes to both seat control modules, the security and locking control module, and body processing module... So, I'm going to guess it was an option at least in 99... I wish my car had it!!! I will be looking at the harness to see if the wires are already in the car... Swap out the mirrors, switch, and get the modules program'd... It would be great if it turns out to be that easy!!

Cheers!!

Keep us posted on your progress. This is something I'd really like to add to my 2002 XKR.

Powerfold was available very early on, you need to PM NikasilNik he has done the conversion and it was publicised in the XKEC Growler magazine, he may have a PDF copy for you or instructions

Yes--it would be useful to have a step-by-step (preferably with photos) explaining exactly how to do the conversion and what extra parts/wiring might also be needed.

Thanks in advance for anyone willing to do this.
