Smile It's been a month since I bought my Xk8

Just finished the changing of all timing chains, tensioners, water pump, thermostat housing, serpentine belt, belt tensioner and idler pulley. Also cooling system flush and refill with Zerex G-05, and front wheel bearings.

Car runs, drives and looks super good. Will sort out the conv top hydraulics next but going to have some fun driving it for a while first.

1997 XK8 BRG 54,000 miles creampuff $9300 invested so far, What a deal!

Thanks a whole lot for this forum and all help, never would have owned such a sweet car with out you good folks.

Charlie, thanks for the post, but, as they say...............lol
Seriously, if you have them post them on up

Sounds like you've been way busy since you got her and need to enjoy driving for a while before you do anymore!
There's some top guys here who have done and have knowledge and can offer advice for the convertible hydraulics should you need it!

Waiting for the pics

Hey, Charlie, I'm just curious ...

Very low miles. So did you do the primary chains & tensioners because of a problem or just to get out in front of it?

I figured if it was a potential problem that could destroy a $12k motor and that there was an upgrade available that solves the problem than fix it and be done and enjoy the car, but the only reason I'm so smart is because of this forum.

The upper tensioners had 1/4" cracks the lower tensioners had no cracks but a lot of wear on the pads. The car ran noticeably better when put back together with all new parts, chains included.

Charliepace, Had my '98 since 12/06. It had 36k on it. I did every one of the repairs or replacements you mentioned plus many electrical repairs. Only thing left is the memory steering wheel. Below 40 degrees and above 80 degrees it works fine. Any temps. in between and it has a mind of its own. Can't figure out how to add pics. Jack

Here's a couple pictures of my car and of couple of the motor opened up for the timing chains and tensioner job.

This is great fun, I gotta watch myself, I've started looking at coupes so I could have a pair, looks like if you do it right it's like money in the bank.
