Default I've really done it now...

Truth be known, I was having trouble with the dealership owner in Phila. regarding the black 2000 XK8 I had deposited $500 on (today he refused to allow an inspection of the XK8 by a third party on his property). But later I found a black 2004 XKR on eBay this evening in TX that appealed to me, so I did a deal on that one.
Called the Philly fella back and told him to keep the $500.

Feel much better about things now.

Any advice on transitioning from the XK8 to the XKR?

Here's the beauty (bears a rather strong resemblence to the one underneath!):

My advice would be: enjoy the lovely sound of the supercharger doing its job

Congrats on a beautiful car. Those rims look pretty good on it, but I'd try to get rid of the window tint in the back. I think it takes away some of the lines of the coupé when the windows are that dark.

Enjoy the ride!

Agree. Window Tinting Sucks (In my opinion).

But the $500 that you "lost" is money well spent if it puts you into a "R"

Agree with the tint - it has to go. It's too dark and makes the car look like a van. Otherwise, what a superb car! Congrats.

I kind of like the tint. Are the windows just as tinted?

If the hype from the "R" devotees around here is true, you will need to put a waterproof barrier between your pants and that lovely leather seat until you get used to the extra punch.

I like this one much better, it's an R, and it has the lighter interior (I usually like black interiors, but for some reason I hated it when I test drove a black on black car)

Yes, I was surprised last night when I was looking at the pics on the listing that I really liked the color combination. So it'll be quite a change from my previous silver/black XK8.
Now all I have to do is get the center dash and guages out of my now totaled car and replace that outdated GPS in the R . Will ask the adjuster about that tomorrow.

I live in TX and believe me, tinting that back window in a coupe was not only a good idea but likely a necessity. It probably also helped save the interior from sun rot.

Removing tint is a real PITA. The trick is to use a good garment steamer, otherwise the 2 layers pull apart and you're left with a real mess.

It spent time in Palm Beach, then Houston, so it was probably a good thing. I asked the guy who's going to inspect it to see it the shop there would remove it before shipping, since NC isn't as bad and I can garage it. We'll see haha...

You should've paid Brutal, one of our resident techs (in Houston also) to do the inspection...talk about getting a thorough eval from someone who sees the guts and EKGs on these things everyday. Now that would've been money well spent...not that your 'contract inspector' won't catch most of the obvious stuff... I've seen that dealer with more than a few jags online for sale over the years...he sure details them nicely.

Skid Mark, Very nice. Congratulations on the upgrade! I found a 2004 black one also but decided to keep my car and fix it. Just easier for me and as someone said, I know this car and it's devils (which there are none) and wouldn't another one.

One thing I think I noticed as a difference in my XK8 and the XKR is that the steering was more sensitive. That may just be a steering adjustment. Probably is. With mine if I look to the side of the road, I'm there!

Happy to be getting my car fixed.
