Default Just got 2008 XKR have 2 issues already, not sure how series. (any help appreciated)

Hi everyone
First off, nice site you have here. Very nice!

Ok, here is my story:
I took over a lease from someone for a 2008 XRK convertible with 14k miles off a swapalease.com. Picked it up yesterday, love the car drives and looks great.

Everything was fine yesterday, today 2 issues.
First issue is the top. I got a warning reading saying "Convertible top not latched", plus the back windows are stuck down. I tried to take it down manually with the instructions in the book, I did that then put it back up manually still nothing.
My question are, is this something serious? is this covered by the warranty? Will it cost me an arm and a leg to get fixed if not covered. Can someone list what may be causing the automatic top to stop working. I read one thread about hydraulic problem, the year of the car in that thread was 2004, not sure if my car (2008 xkr) has the same system with same problems.

The second problem is the driver side headlights, today they stopped working, both the big xeon and the smaller light next to it. I played around with the switch got it to work, then turned off the car, put it back on and they wouldn't go on again. When I turn the light switch on, the light flashes like it wants to go on but doesn't. Anyone have an idea what that could be?

I went to a Jaguar service station today, but they wouldn't look at it, told me I would need to come back Monday. I'll go back Monday but I'll sleep better for the next few days if I have an idea of the problem, cost, ect..

Any help would be greatly appreaciated.

Dmitry

As for the roof not latching it could be many things. My experience is on a 99 but I would first see if your hyd fluid level is correct. Then check to see if you have a hyd leak at the latch. To do this all you need to do is look at the lights just above the rearview mirror, you may need to remove it to see. Most times you will find one of your hoses failed and is leaking. You should be able to lock the roof manually and then your windows will go up. If the hose is not the problem then I would look for a fuse or a bad relay (the 2 relays are in the trunk). You can go to my web page and you will find photos of most all you need.
As for the lights I have no experience in that area. However it sounds like a loose or bad connection.

If you have an 08 with 14k miles, you are under full factory warranty!

As far as the roof issue, open the trunk and make sure that the luggage divider is properly snapped into it's brackets, (It looks like a small luggage cover in the back of an suv.) If it's not properly secured the top will not function. Look it up in the manual that came with the car.

As far as the lights You have the warranty.

The '07 and up XK convertible top is completely different from the '97-'06 cars. The top latches mechanically not hydraulically. The most common problem is the top getting out of sync. Usually if you manually close it and make sure it is fully latched just running it up and down a couple of times fixes the problem. i would definetly let the dealer handle it if you have any doubts about what you are doing. The top is easily bent and then you will have nothing but trouble after that.

Well that's an interesting read, and is another case where the ramblings of my adled mind have reinvented the wheel. Mechanical latching for a convertible top, who ever would have dreamed it? And here we see the same conclusions have been considered and adopted. That's real forward thinking after ten years of watching fluid squirt for the same reason on car after car.

reset the the door windows, if theyre not set, the whole system is not fully programmed. run each 1 down, press and hold switch 5 seconds, then run up press and hold switch 5 seconds, do the same for the passenger and see if it doesnt work correctly after you run the top a couple times.
Then make an appont to have the lights looked at

I should never assume! I had no idea that 2008 had a mechanical latch. I learned something today.

Wait, I'm a bit confused. When you say "switch", do you mean the top switch that opens the top? Cause, I have no juice at all when I press that button, up or down and I pressed it for 5 and 10 seconds at a time, nothing happens.
