just hit the 150,000 mile mark, what a fun 23 months years of XKR ownership it's been. Thanks in no small part to the knowledge base of this forum.
In the last 23 months I've piled on 34,000 miles of that 150k total. Which works out to 17,700 mile yearly average. That's a healthy increase from the 7,700 mile yearly average that the previous owners had racked up. I've owned more powerful cars, and I've owned more comfortable cars. But for the money, the XKR is a class by itself, with a wonderful combination of power and comfort. Not to mention the suburb styling.
I know I'm preaching to the choir here, so I'll cut this short.
(I kid...although I am at about 187K miles right now along with 165K on the X-Type)
the car is very young, very fresh feeling, I agree. I'm hoping to hit way north of 300,000 miles on the XKR before either I, or car, is totally used up.
Thanks to your post, I now have an intermediate goal; to hit 200,000 before you do. That would be me driving another 50,000 miles before you drive 13,000 more. I'll wager my favorite adult beverage (Anchor Steam Beer) against whatever you are drinking. All in good fun and the holiday spirit of course.
Truthfully, most of the non-driving day I'm thinking: "this" meeting / this event / this movie / this fill-in-the-blank (non-driving activity) is BS and a waste of my time. I should behind the wheel of the Jaguar having a good time.
For a long while I was racking up nearly 2000 miles a month and powering to 200,000. Now I work from home and put waaaay less on . I turned over 199,000 several days ago, but that last thousand will take awhile!

I’m retired, so no commuting mileage. Which is for the best, if I was driving to work, I’d always be tempted to drive on past (the office, the plant, the shop, etc. etc.) and spend the day behind the wheel.

I’ve found that seldom driven cars have their own issues with deterioration. Give me a well
maintained high mileage car anytime vs a low mileage garage queen. Without exception, all the low mileage classics I’ve purchased, or worked on for customers, took 1-2 years to sort out the all the effects of sitting unused.
A car (or motorcycle) that’s in continuous usage is a well tested machine, and more reliable too, imho.
My wife's 2006 XK8 recently turned 120,000 miles. It was her daily driver from early February 2012 until late October 2018. Now just a toy, it has done right at 2,000 miles during the past year....
I'm increasingly tempted to "sticky" this thread and refer everyone who posts about Jaguar unreliability to read it.
I took my XJ40 to 141K and X300 to 162K miles but don't do the business miles now and haven't pushed any of my XK8's or XK's over 100K miles. I don't doubt any of them could easily do much more.
But Graham, the downside (for me, anyway) has been that my wife's 2006 XK8 has required far more DIY maintenance, DIY repairs, and money to get it beyond 100,000 miles than any of our previous vehicles that have previously crossed that barrier (my 1974 Datsun 260Z, my 1988 Jeep Cherokee, my wife's 1989 Acura Legend, my wife's 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee, my wife's 2000 Lexus RX300, my wife's 2004 Lexus RX330, and my 2005 S-Type 3.0)….
A used Jaguar is a lottery. I've always followed your posts and you certainly have had to do more than average to the XK8.
My XK8 4.2-S was the NA equivalent of your wife's Victory Edition but required little more than upper wishbone bushes and Instrument Pack bulbs. The 2001 XK8 that preceeded it needed more spend including a throttle body in the days when separate TPS wasn't available. However, both cars were reliable. I took them on extended Continental tours and never had a breakdown.

I agree. Since I have retired I do not do much mileage. 3,000 at year at the most.
With very few exceptions I make sure I drive mine every week with bouts of hard driving whilst its out. Keeps the joints supple, moisture out of the engine. It does the car good too
Yep as you said a well maintained high mileage is far more preferable to one stuck in a garage 8 months of the year.
My 2002 XKR, having been retired from its daily driver duties years ago when I got my 2010 XKR still gets usage on a regular basis. It will pass the 175,000 miles milestone on its next drive or two. Not far behind, my 2010 XKR has passed 154,000. Love them both!

You may well hit the 200K mile mark before I do...I drive about 60 miles each day, but I have multiple vehicles I spread mileage across. The only one not seeing regular use right now is the Miata. And, admittedly, I did finally tend to some issues on the 1 of 544 Grand Marquis LSE's equipped as mine is and I have been driving it three times or so every few weeks. Add in the days where I take the X-Type (crappy weather) and the good weather days where the F-Type comes out (it is north of 42K miles in roughly two years), and the XK8 is not racking the miles up the way it once was...
