Help does anyone know if i can get a valet key cloned to main key ?I have valet key that works and main keys cut but not programmed.
Local dealer unable or unwilling to program and local Indie tried but failed to reprogram.Also any contacts with locksmiths that may be able to
clone vehicle is 1999 xk8 convertible.We are in the Mobile Alabama area.

 

For a pre-2001 model, you need to check that the crypto chip built into the handle of the new key is the older Megamos 13. The 2001 and later system calls for the newer Megamos 48. Check with whoever made your new key. FWIW, these chips are available separately on eBay for a few $. Worst case, you have to dig out the old one (if there is one) and replace it. Then your Indie can try again.

PS: I am aware of the possibility of cloning the older chips, but it is a locksmith thing, outside of the normal procedure.

 

How can i check see which transponder is in the keys i have??

 

Check with whoever made your main key. It must be a key for a 98-2000 car. A key for a 2001 and later car will have the wrong chip.
