Default Keyfob battery(ies)

Hi
What battery goes in a 98 XK8?
I have 2 remotes. One has 2 2016s in and works. The 2nd has one 2032 and is not working or battery dead.
One googled but not getting a straight answer.
Rob.

1 each 2032 can replace 2 each 2016's either will power the remote. Make sure the + is in the right direction.

ALL 20xx (20mm x 1.6mm, 2.5mm, 3.2mm) batteries are 3 VOLTS.
2016=20mm x 1.6mm-3 VOLTS
2025=20mm x 2.5mm-3 VOLTS
2032=20mm x 3.2mm-3 VOLTS

Stacking the batteries (series connection) will provide 6 Volts.

Make sure you install the correct battery(s) for the keyfob transmitter you have.

To >VIN A11050 should require TWO (2) CR2016 batteries. (JLM11905)
From VIN> A11051 should require ONE (1) CR2032 battery. (JLM20930)

I think the VIN and battery combos are correct?

Again I don't want to be an idiot, but how did this Vin info you forwarded answer the fob question?

The format of the last 6 characters in the VIN changed from 6 digits to 'A' + 5 digits after ....042775, essentially with the introduction of the 2000 MY.

Your VIN of .....028772 precedes the start of the A + 5 digits, hence the fob requires 2 x CR2016 cells as per motorcarman's list in post #3

I replaced batteries, 2X 2016, and appears remote is dead. Now I need to get a replacement. This remote looks brand new with no wear. Ugh!!!

May be dead, or maybe it's not recognised by the car.
Do you know a friendly radio ham or someone with a scanner covering 315MHz? It should be possible to determine if it's transmitting or not.
