Default Laser 5537 hub nut tool

I wrote to Laser today about their hub nut tool suggesting it was not fit for purpose as it only has a socket for a 1/2 inch bar.

Laser Tools | 5537 | ABS Rotor Nut Socket - Jaguar

They said that they have now (some time in 2013) changed their design to have a 3/4 inch hole.

So beware when buying this item to ensure you get one of the newer models.

Their web site still shows the old model as does the data sheet and I suspect there are still a lot of them out in the distribution network.

I asked them for a replacement but they did not respond.

I would not worry about having a 1/2" drive because most people use an adapter to go from 3'4" down to 1/2" and use an air impact.

I have an adapter on mine (Jaguar factory tool from when I was at the dealer) and always use a 1/2" drive for remove and install.

I'm with RD on this one, the 1/2" drive is not good enough, I snapped my reducer on it and getting an impact gun on it is fine if you happen to have a 3/4 one laying around which I don't

I actually welded my reducer to the tool making it a 3/4 drive.... No probs since

I guess you have been lucky, I think Laser must have had multiple complaints to change their design.

I have tools on both sides of the pond and have always thought that 1/2" drive tools in the USA are stronger than 1/2" in the UK - they certainly take more abuse. No idea if they are made to a stronger specification, in fact I would have guessed that these days they all come out of the same far east factory.Nevertheless, that's my experience. Just an observation- no science in it whatsoever :0)
