Default Left side front and rear signal lights and headlight keep blowing...

97 XK8... the last problem, yeah it was cylinder wash.

So now to the next issue... left side front and rear signal lights keep blowing... but not the right side. Any clues?

If you press the brakes, the turn signals act funny (just relaying what the owner has stated).

Thanks for the help on the last issue.

Xeno,
Have you had a chance to pull the rear light assembly in each (left & Right) side in the trunk? Don't know if you've been there yet, it is an easy job. Just look for the plastic tabs that secure the light's and their circuit board in position. I'd sure want to see if there was fluid or a foriegn object in there. I had the brake do this once with some kind of corrosion (long time ago don't remember details). If you put some large objects in the trunk you can bang this assembly and break off a light bulb's glass without realizing it. It's a place to start.

When you said act crazy, don't forget they intentionally blink at an unusual rate with a burned out bulb.

That immediately suggests that there is a problem with the ground wire arrangements. Probably at the rear light cluster where a bad connector is known to cause that effect. A common cure is to solder a new ground wire to the cluster to byepass the plug-in connector.

+1 for astromorg. I had the ground problem on my 97 XK8. You need to remove the plug at the base of the light fixture. You will probably find at one end of the plug is heat damaged. That is the GROUND connection. Mine had the copper pieces distorted when compared to the other connectors and was touching a nearby connector.
You can straighten them with needle nose pliers and a small screwdriver. The real problem is the ground is insufficient for the light load.
You will need to add and additional ground.
Try a search for xk8 tail light grounding. Send me a PM and I can send you a photo of my ground installation for the light fixture.

The car isn't mine, so I can't immediately check. I used to own it but sold it to a friend.

I still have my 05 XKR though... just not 2 kx's anymore.

And thanks for the advice, it took me a long time to get the details from my friend because he's not really good explaining himself.

I'll check in the next few days and report back. Thanks!

Thanks guys! That sure was an easy fix. I told the owner to check the ground wires as everyone suggested and he found it. Awesome!
