Lincoln remote key fob for Jaguar

Lincoln remote key fob for Jaguar
Looking at a buddy's Lincoln remote, and comparing FCC ID #s on the back gave me an idea. I got a brand new Lincoln remote (for far less than the cost of a beat up looking Jaguar remote) and successfully programmed it so both it and my Jaguar remote work for my car.
That got me wondering, if the programming occurs to the remote or to the car; and if one remote can be used to work more than one car. I would love it if I could figure out how to carry just one remote in my pocket.
Anyone have any ideas on this?

The Car is Re-Programmed to accept the code that the Remote has set into it when it is made.

Interesting idea.
I don't know, but I strongly suspect that the remote is paired to the car, and not the car to the remote. The remote electronics are probably pretty stupid, and transmit an ID along with the Command Instruction to the car, which is expected to remember the ID from the pairing (programming) process. In other words, your idea of carrying only one remote for multiple (compatible) cars is sound.
Now, who's going to try it?

Then I shall give it a try and see what happens. It probably will be the weekend before I get to it.
On the Lincoln/Ford remote, the button for the headlights looks like an alarm symbol. The other three buttons have symbols similar to the Jaguar's.
My next task is to keep an eye out for a Jaguar remote case that I can move the circuit board into.
