Default Low Coolant message

As I drive around (99XK8) every so often I get the low coolant message. I've checked the coolant reservoir, it's full and the temperature guage is normal and the engine does not seem to be heating up. Any ideas what it could be?

I had this once. Car was always fine but one day I was HAMMERING IT on the hwy and the light came on. I guess the high speed has sucked down more fluid? I topped it off, 2 years later no issues.

Another possibility can be a faulty cap, this allows too much water to got to your atmosperic tank in your right fender.

Be careful the tank and few of the hoses are often brittle. And AKRacer has a good point to check the cap.

It's a good idea to fix this problem. I had an RX7 with the same problem. It got so that I ignored the light because it came on once every week or two.
One day it comes on, I ignore it, then glance in my mirror on the freeway, only to see a cloud of steam following me! I had blown a heater hose. Luckily I noticed it before any damage was done.

Another suspect: the float. I've seen it reported that it can take on a little coolant and so start riding lower than it should.

BTW, the gauge is pretty useless. It won't show you much until things are way too hot.

Good luck.

I've also seen that they are a very temperamental sensor. It sometimes only takes it to be down a few ounces to set of the light. At that age, there's a good chance you're leaking from somewhere, but it doesn't take much to set off the alarm.
