Default Lower Radiator Hose

I need to replace the lower radiator hose. The lower clamp appears to be a spring type that has two ears. Is there a tool that will reach down there, or would I be better off pulling the fan shroud, which will allow access with ordinary pliers?

You can release the bottom clamp using Plumbers Pipe Grip:

Just enough room without removing the shroud.

Graham, I know I'm getting old, but that's inexcusable. I have Channel Lock pliers in my home repair tool box, and didn't even think of them. It's still very clumsy, but worth a try.

The spread on the Grip jaws and only having to squeeze the clamp lugs in by a small distance to release the hold on the radiator stub makes it still awkward but achievable.

I always look for a way to reduce the amount of dismantling required for any job!

I could not get a grip on the clamp and had to remove the fan shroud. I hope it works for you. Jim

I'm told there is an actual tool designed to remove these, but it's probably expensive. I removed the power steering reservoir for more room. It's just a few bolts and I left the hoses attached and just moved it out of the way. While you are at it, chop a little bit off of the engine side of the new hose to give you a little extra clearance over the fan shroud to prevent rubbing (see this thread: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...or-hose-71932/ [Hat tip to Graham for the suggestion]) I see you posted in there, so you probably already knew it, but I thought I'd mention it anyway.

Do you have any cost and supplier details on that Camel Castrator?

I do remember seeing that tool on here about a year ago. Seems to me it was from Sears and cost $35 or more. I took my clamp off with my flex shaft Dremel and replaced it with a screw clamp. Could not quite get the channel lock into position. Getting the hose over the nipple on the bottom was no party either. I need to buy a heat gun.

Sears does have them, but I found them after I had changed out the hose. Jim

Default Cool Tool

I'm kind of a tool freak and would buy that in a minute if I hadn't already replaced the spring clamps with screw type most everywhere...

I use it all the time between both cars. It is a great tool to have.

I am a toolnut (ask my wife), I buy tools to support planned projects as well as to have in each car I drive. Given the reports of overheating I aquired several tools to trouble shoot cooling problems.
Purchased the complete kit, it also includes hose clamps to shut off flow from disconnected hoses. Also purchased a radiator pressure tester with adapter for Jaguar pressure caps. The pressure tester helped locate a leaking heater hose on a cold engine.
I always tell my wife a man can't have enough tools or I sneak them into the house.
