Hi all, after being stood for a long time (8 years) I've got the car back on the road. Trouble is it runs like a dog. Won't accelerate properly and stutters or even stalls. I've done all the usual maintenance, plugs etc but no better. Took her on the motorway this morning and was not running at all well but could coax her upto around 70mph. Plugged the code reader in and got this for the maf reading. I've done a little research and it doesn't look right. Also symptoms of a bad maf match what I'm experiencing. Do you 5hink this could be my problem. I'm sure I've cleaned it a couple of months ago as part of maintenance.
many thanks in advance for any assistance.
Possibly...when I first got my 99 it was running a bit rough, sluggish etc. Symptoms of a bad mafs. I cleaned it twice with ni difference. OBD readings looked ok but I finally just replaced the mafs and it was fixed. I could now see how sluggish the maf readings were compared to the instantaneous reaction of the new mafs. I messed around checking things for like a month and wish I would have just gone with my instincts on the first day. The sensor was used on several cars and is readily available pretty cheap on Amazon.
That MAF reading is out by a factor of 100 - I'm surprised you don't have any codes that go with it.
Also beware of people recommending parts to you without first finding out what car you are going to be fitting them to. You might want to update your signature.
Also was reading 10.13g/s at 900 rpm and 16.58g/s around 1900 rpm.
Those values seem reasonable. I think you might want to clean the connector and inspect the wiring for any damage. That is more like a loose connection than anything else at this point - especially as new MAFs aren't cheap. If you do decide to swap it, you might want to try a second hand OEM part first.
Note: the 4.0 L XKR’s have a unique MAF that is only shared with the 4.0 L XJR’s. The inexpensive aftermarket MAF’s will not work correctly on your car, nor will the MAF’s for the XK-8’s. A Jaguar part will the correct part number on it is your only option .
Yes, two screws and the MAF pulls right up. Do so after the wiring connection is removed. Those wires can be a source of trouble when pulled too tight.
I’ve seen several ads eBay and elsewhere that claimed to be for the 4.0 XKR / XJR but all were just generic items.
I’ve tried 2 or 3 of them and had to return them all. Best of luck with whatever you choose.
