Is there a list of potential messages that may be displayed in the speedometer? I am in need of an explanation for two.
1) Cruise control unavailable.
2) Check rear lights.

There are DTCs, just not always P codes.

There are also B codes, C codes and U codes.

Find a 'reader' that can access ALL modules.

 

This generally means there is an issue with your brake switch. It is a pretty common issue. Your options are to replace it outright, or repair the circuit board by replacing the 2 soldered micro switches. These are pretty standard NC/NO micro switches with several suppliers and part# already identified. On a scale of 1 to 10, the soldering skills required are a 1 or a 2, nothing outside of the ordinary. The part is a pain to reinstall, but again nothing outside of what a determined individual can accomplish on their own. There are MANY posts about this on this forum.

Just type "XK8 brake pedal switch assembly repair" into the forum's search bar and read all about it. As others have said, the very best fix is to replace the two rather flimsy microswitches in the assembly with much more robust ones. Many of us have sourced our new microswitches from mouser.com....
