Default Metal ashtray insert

Hi all....Since I purchased my 98 xk8 I have been chasing down parts for it. Pieces that were missing or broken have all been replaced, except the metal ashtray insert. I tried a web service to locate one but the best that they could come up with was the whole assembly for like $300. Anybody out there know where I can get one? Thanks

Are you sure you are not talking about the plastic insert? Either way this is not sold separately from the overall assembly. When I bought my previously owned XKR the only things missing were the ashtray insert and the little kit for the BBS wheels. I bit the bullet and ordered the BBS kit from Jaguar. When it came to the insert, luckily I found a wrecking yard not too far that happened to have a few XK8s on the yard. So I found the ashtray piece in one of the cars and while I was scrounging around I also found a trunk storage hammock in another car. They guy sold me both for about $50. I believe there are a few websites I found (jaguargraveyard is one) that may have these types of oddball parts.

Are you saying that actual ashtray is plastic? I didn't know i just assumed it was metal. Do you know if there were other models of jag that used the same insert?

It looks and feels like some plastic molded material--definitely not metal. It has the same sort of "rib" design as that found in the little rubber insert for the coin holder that is right in front of the shifter. It did not bother me too much at first not having this insert but once I found it, it definitely looks more "finished". I hate having missing or broken pieces on my cars.

I have all sorts of extra oddball parts after rolling my 2001 XKR (not too many good exterior parts, though). So feel free to hit me up if you're looking for something in particular.

Sorry to hear about your roll-over but I guess your misfortune will help some of us restore perfection. What color is the interior?

We should start a local club, "The OryGun Rollers" Or "The OreGun Flip Rollers"
