Default might be a stupid question

The 2005 XK8 Convertible (my first ever) has a carbon fiber dash and accents, light tan leather seats with black swade trim and black swade trim on the door pannels, steering wheel has R in the center and black shift knob, all other XK8's I've seen have wood dash and single color seats. I was wondering if these were aftermarket add on items or special order options. Thanks for any info

Welcome to the forum.

There was a carbon fiber dash option, but I think it was only on the final series from 2006.

An XK8 wouldn't have come with an R on the wheel and the suede bits are not standard issue either.

That said, I'm kind of interested in what this interior looks like. You will have to make a few more posts before the forum lets you attach pictures but it sounds like you've got a unique car.

For 2005 there was a "carbon fiber edition" offered that included everything you have listed except I'm not sure about the "R" airbag cover. Most options were available outside the US but it appears this package was marketed in the U.S. only.

The following is an excerpt from a press release:

"Jaguar's first celebration of the XK's dominance in Trans-Am racing came in the 2005 model year with the release of 200 XK8 Carbon Fiber limited edition models. These models featured a dramatic carbon fiber veneer across the dash and center console, the same material that Rocketsports Racing uses throughout the entire body of the championship-winning Trans-Am racecar. The special XK8s also featured plush Alcantara inserts in the seats and door panels and bold, 10-spoke, 19-inch 'Atlas' style wheels. A set of sport aluminum and rubber-studded brake, accelerator and footrest pedals, an all-leather steering wheel and a Momo gear knob were also added to give the driver extra control in hard driving."

Also note that there are a few carbon fiber edition sales brochures available on E-bay.

Murnan, I never heard of it (and am no expert at the Jag history) but this short-lived link to an ebay ad ad seems to imply there was an XK8 with an "R Package"? Is this the one you bought? Jac

I stand corrected. Had no idea such a package existed.

Although difficult to be certain without seeing pics, I think you may have a modified vehicle rather than an OE 2005 Victory Edition.

Carbon Fibre (the real thing and not stick-on plastic) was available as an option on the Final Series and the Door Cards had additional soft trim on the lower front corners:

The Mats are leather trimmed and embossed:

The front Badge has chequered flags............

........... as do the the Sill Plates with either XK8 or XKR:

I haven't seen OE seat inserts from the factory since the early UK vehicles in 1997 but yours could be a dealer option.

To clarify the Victory Editions were sold in North America as 2006 models. Additionally the XK8 variants of the Victory Edition were equipped with Elm veneer fascias.

Graham: Does your 4.2s have a carbon fiber fascia? Other than some wheel options the Victory Edition and 4.2s should have been identical. Here in North America special order interior combinations were not very common.

I am very confident even without pictures you have 1 of 200 carbon fiber editions, see post #3

Paul: The "R" airbag cover replaced the "XKR" block letters. I believe this was a part of the 2004-2006 "facelift".

Can't one of the moderators (aka forum gods) fix it so murnan can post pictures. This is getting interesting.

Default ....Bringing this post back from the Dead

Bought my 2006 XK8 a few months ago. Sold at the dealer as "Rare, 1 of 200 Carbon Fiber Edition." Has all of the attributes mentioned above and I can assure those who said it was a customized XK8...that it is not. It is a legitimate factory job. It is Satin Silver Metallic, a color only available on the Victory Editions normally. Headlamps are also smoked with charcoal colored housings.

It is absolutely gorgeous and I stand a better chance of being struck by lighting while being attacked by a shark than I do of seeing another one of these vehicles on the road.
