Default mileage clock settings? new engine or new clocks?

Hi, as the title sugggests my querry regards a clocking issue.
I'm looking at a 99 Jag xk8 for sale which ran up to 86k in milage up to 2009 on it's M.O.T in 2010 the mileage is 1147 and 10k in 2010 and so on.
Looking for possible explanations.
1. Does a new engine come with a new ECU and that would thererfore start at zero miles?
2. I know a new set of clocks will read whatever the former cars mileage was but to find a brand new set of clocks would be very difficult in order to get a zero mileage so I'm a bit confused. Any help much appreciated.

1. no
2. looks like someone changed the mileage - I would hope not illegally or with a plausibly good reason (what???)

Without documents I'd walk or treat it as the original engine now on ... 100K+ miles

Either way, a 4.0 ... chain tensioners ok?

they bought a cluster with zero miles on it, factory has to program mileage into them.

rolling back an x100 is just swap cluster and done

Guy selling the car isn't trying to hide the fact that the mileage changes at 86k to 1000 miles and I haven't gone too much into details about it with the guy. In fact, in the brief convo we've had he has stated the engine was changed and hinted at the speedo too. I'm just trying to work out how before I go to have a look.

cheers for all you input

Early ones you can change the clocks but later its programmed into the security and the whole car locks up

Back in 2010 new dash/interior/electronic modules etc parts were quite easy to purchase. Lots were listed on Ebay/Amazon in the UK, maybe the Jaguar parts departments (factory or dealers) had a clear out.
I bought a brand new set of the centre 3 gauge oil/battery/clock to keep as spare for about £12 in 2011.
