Default Milestone - 200,000 miles

Hard to believe my daily driver 1999 XK8 convertible has turned over 200,000!
It has reached the point where I must seriously replace it or put more money into it than it is worth. Lots of smiles when driving and receive compliments every week on the car.

Well done. Always good to read about any vehicle lasting 200,000 miles....

So what will you do - repair it or replace it?

Congratulations, no shame to it if it needs work at that mileage.

You'll not have too much competition on that leader board!

Well done indeed! How many of those miles did you log? What were your most significant repairs?

Congratulations !!! I had a late start. Just got my XKR in January 2018 with 116,000 already on the ticker. Now I'm at 128,000, and adding 1,500 - 2,000 every month. Hope to reach your plateau soon

Z.

PS modern cars should reach 400,000 miles NO PROBLEM without any overhauling. Since Corvettes hit 400,000 - 500,000 miles with regularity, then ANY car can.

What repairs and / or out of the ordinary maintenance have you done so far ?

How many miles did it have when you bought it ?

again, congratulations ! We are amoung the few people using these cars as a daily drivers. Some folks have more willpower than I do. I couldn't get into a boring car with the XKR sitting idle in the garage.

Z

We also share past ownership of a few e types. Those days are unforgettable. I had the good fortune to drive one of the e types (non stop) from Central Oklahoma to Santa Monica, California in 1979. Even with gas and fast food breaks , I still managed to average 90 mph for the whole trip. I was kind of sad to see the Santa Monica pier and the Pacific Ocean, the car was raring to keep on going .....

Thanks guys!
To answer some questions:
I purchased the car in Oct of 2010 with 90,000 miles on it at a local non jaguar dealer. It needed the board for the anti lock brakes repaired and numerous coolant leaks addressed, I got a very good deal on the car due to all the red lights showing. Normal maintenance on the car and garage kept as the Florida sun is terrible on all cars.
Only two major issues were dealt with;
Transmission - I am on my 3rd transmission. The known defect broke the first one and I had it rebuilt (not a good job) and it lasted 30,000 miles. Now I have a used one that has being running strong for several years.
Head gasket - the '99 has the composite head gasket and let go the weekend I got the car back with the 3rd transmission installed

Lovely car, rides well and fun. Current issues are it needs new shocks all around, steering links and the paint is faded. Not sure about putting that much money in a car with 200,000 miles on it. Since it is my daily driver I may just drive and smile until it dies.

Congrats on the milestone! I'm at 180k and closing quick, so don't slow down your driving!

I might replace the steering bits, but otherwise, good strategy !

Congratulations, and hope you get many more fun miles out of it.

Sold my '01 XK8 with the clock just shy of 150k. Getting close to 100K on the current XF. With proper maintenance, these cars will go a long way.
