Default Misfire, Limp Mode, & other Jaguar treats!

Hi all,
I will be looking at an 99' XK8 later this week, and the vehicle has been sitting in a warehouse. The man says he starts it every month and drives it around, and most recently he was driving when it went into limp mode. Showing the running code P1000 and P0353 (faulty ignition coil and/or wiring), P0303 (Cylinder 3 misfire), P1316 (o2 Sensor for that bank). I was planning on buying the ignition coil on ebay ($20) and just swapping it there to see if it fixes it. However, I am wondering if even a little misfire and gas going into the cat will result in me needing to buy a new one....
Will keep you guys updated!

Let me know if there's anything else I should be looking for when I go see it.

The cats can take some abuse but not forever.

Chances are P1316 is not what you post but instead shows severe misfires.

Could well be the coil. It's #1 suspect.

@JagV8 Yes a mistake on my end with code P1316. It originally showed something about o2 sensors so I assumed. Is this a common code to have for a faulty coil pack causing a misfire? Severe misfires sounds not good!

yes. if one cylinder doesnt work right it will cause further fault codes.
if cylinder 3 has a bad coil/spark plug the gases in the exhaust run to rich (lambda smaller 1).

i wouldnt buy any parts so far.
go exchange the spark plug to the other bank to any cylinder. in the same moment take the coil from cylinder three to a different cylinder from the other bank. (not the same as you put the spark plug! a different one)

now check:
- did the „new“ cylinder with the spark plug coming from nr.3 result in a fault code?
- did the „new“ xcylinder with the coil coming from nr. 3 result in a fault code?
- did the o2 sensor from the other bank give you a fault code or is it still the same as the bank for cylinder 3?

i hope i could explain it good enough. otherwise ask :-)

The cats can stand some abuse (P1316 says they're getting some).

You could swap the suspect coil to another position & see if the fault moves.

If buying a coil make sure it's the exact kind (not a cheap "clone" one) as they just tend to cause yet more trouble.
