Default this mornings dilemma

stuck in park!!!! Was able to override and put into gear - got to work ok, but now when I try to lock the car - does not lock passenger side.

Aside from possible battery issue here is the question as I found several threads on stuck in park and using the over ride but did not see cause/solutions.

1) What is possible cause and how to fix?

2) does overriding the gear selector have any possible tie in to the security system?

It sounds like you could have a failed Gearshift Interlock Solenoid. You should normally hear a click from inside the J-Gate selector as it disengages when you press the brake pedal.

Accessing the solenoid required removal of the J-Gate surround and the console veneer trim panel:

I don't think this has implications for the security system.......

Thanks Graham - will look at solenoid over the weekend. I thought the door not locking was odd as well - so maybe the battery is starting to show its age

Pull and check all the fuses in the left hand fascia fuse box first.

See if the brake lights are working...MAY be brake light switch adjustment or failure.. (behind brake pedal).

Jazz Cat - thanks - thought that possibility as well but brake lights were visible in rear view mirror so wasn't sure.

Started car went to put into R - no joy, shut off car, restarted tried again no joy (did not think at this point to listen for any clicking while depressing brake pedal). Shut car off went and pulled override procedures off the forum - started car, tried again with no joy so used the override and off to work I went.

When i got out of the car, I locked the driver door with the key (no fobs) but there was no audible indication the alarm was set. So I checked the doors - driver locked passenger not. Shut passenger door walked back, unlocked and relocked driver door - still no audible indication so again checked doors with the same results - said the hell with it for now and went into work. Posted my questions on the forum.

Around lunch, I saw a break in the rain and went out to start looking at some of the fuses - opened the passenger door to get my fuse puller/tester out of the door handle pocket and the alarm went off (interesting since I had no indication it had been set). Cleared the alarm, pulled the cover off the drivers side fascia fuse panel and the heavens opened up, so locked up and went back in to work. This time there was audible indication the alarm was set.

Came out of work, had someone verify brake lights are working (yes indeed) and listened for audible click near J-gate when depressing brake - yes it was present. Hmmmm - tried to shift out of Park - yes it shifted - so not sure WTH occurred, but will do as Gus recommended when it stops raining and will continue to monitor. I think a battery load test is also warranted.

Appreciate the replies and will post later when i have something more to relay.
