Default The most expensive X100 in the world?

This Jaguar XKR sold for USD $85,000 recently. Is this the highest valuation of an X100 today. Sign of this to come? Good or bad?

Someone overpaid a lot for what is essentially a dealer special and not an official limited edition. I would be kicking myself for that for sure.

I am interested in what makes a special edition valid or special.
All special or limited editions are marketing exercises to boost values.
Also helps people differentiate their cars from others.
There are lots of cars sold with the same or very similar specifications to any 'special edition'.
I believe what makes a car more special or unique is their history or story.
These Stirling Moss cars put a big tick in the box as modified to a high standard and endorsed by Sir Stirling Moss.
Therefore, I think there is some extra value in these cars, despite not being a factory edition.

Were they really endorsed by Stirling Moss? It was my understanding that the endorsement is a hoax.

And, this is the statement made by Jaguar Heritage a few years ago:

The cars being advertised as Stirling Moss editions were not produced in the Jaguar factory. They were aftermarket conversions done in the US market (we think by a dealer in California) and were produced as part of a marketing support programme for a historic race series supported by Jaguar North America in 2003. It would appear that just five were made; from searching on the internet, the first car looks like a show car with flip up doors and different wheels and interior, the others look more like standard production, all with the same paint finish - silver with green and red stripes . Some changes were also made to the engine management mapping so that higher power output could be claimed.

The official special editions made by Jaguar are, if memory serves me right, the:
  • Silverstone
  • XKR 100
  • Victory Edition
  • Portfolio
The one I would really love to get my hands on is the XKR-R, but that's a one-off that Jaguar could never solve the "incorrect part fitted" warning message with regards to the manual transmission.

Possibly - but not $60,000 extra value.

Even Jackie Collins' very low mileage XKR fetched less than half that, albeit in 2017:

In my opinion the only x100 models that stand out as special are the Silverstone and the carbon fibre models. Only because they both featured interior elements that could not be ordered as extras, the black leather with red stitching on the Silverstone was not available on any other x100 and obviously the carbon fibre dash was not an option on any other model (to my knowledge)

The x100 didn't really have a particularly standout special model though. Things like the xkrs gt and project 7/8 are true special models as you cannot get anything close to them unless you bought one of these specific very limited cars.

The ultimate limited edition jaguar would be the xjr 15, in my opinion of course 😋

True but I don't believe any were actually made for sale?

Some sounds issues on the previous video. Here's the improved and updated version.

Try to cover all these arguments within the video.
I love the idea of Jaguar Heritage getting their information off the internet.
PS Love the quote "Owning an XK8/R is an act of love, not practicality."
