Mp3 tape splice
Hi All
First post here. I have been reading about the various ways of adding an AUX input to my Premier sound system but have an idea. Instead of splicing into the CD changer why not simply splice into the tape output from behind the head unit? Would this method be far simpler as I would not need to run long cables to the boot/trunk? I could then just insert a dummy tape in the unit and it should work right? I'm not sure about audio levels and quality diffrernces from the CD splice method though. Do you think both inputs to the amp are the same so will have the same quality?

thank you both for your replys....have had a look at the threads...will probably need to reply on those as I don't see why the head unit needs opening up, why not just hack into the wires from the back of it going to the amp....wouldn't that be easier?
No, the pre-amp (volume- and tonecontrol is in the head unit
Ahh OK...pre amp. OK then perhaps I can splice into the cable at the back of the head unit that has come from the CD changer before it goes through the preamp and back to the amp?

The XK8 has the same system. Note that you do need to have CDs in the changer, because the audio channel will not enable unless it thinks CDs are playing.
BTW it's very easy to run cables back from the amp/CD player in the boot. That is what I did when I spliced into the audio channels to get Bluetooth audio at the CD player.
If I was going to go to all the trouble to remove the head unit, I would definitely take it apart to add the audio input as documented on the forum. Seems a lot of trouble to go to and still be using the CD input.

My car has zero rattles or squeaks so I am very reluctant to remove any trim if I don't have to.
